It was around 8:30 PM when the lights went out. Again.
I was halfway through dinner, phone at 40%, and the fan had just stopped whirring. Outside, the neighborhood melted into pitch darkness. I remember looking out the window and realizing something uncomfortable: my entire compound was invisible.
The only thing visible down the road? My neighbor’s farm — lit like a football field, thanks to his 1000W solar floodlight.
I chuckled and thought, “Maybe he’s onto something.”
Most of us are used to occasional blackouts. But have you really paid attention to how vulnerable everything becomes when there’s no light?
In those hours, you’re not just in the dark — you’re exposed.
My Wake-Up Call
I had a cousin from Kisumu tell me how his cyber café was broken into one night during a 10-hour blackout. They didn’t just take his machines. They took his sense of peace.
He now uses two 500W solar lights for the exterior and a small 100W for the shop’s entryway. He told me last week, “I don’t worry about KPLC anymore. If anything, I welcome a blackout.”
That stuck with me.
The Solar Shift
Solar floodlights aren’t just about saving money — although, let’s be real, cutting the power bill is a win. They’re about control. They’re reliable. They don’t care if the power is out or if it’s raining cats and dogs.
From 100W for your gate to 2000W for wide compounds or farms, these lights turn your space into a fortress. Quiet. Bright. Dependable.
So Ask Yourself This:
If the power went off for 12 hours tonight… would you be in control, or in the dark?
